There are many reasons why people become homeless – loss of employment, family break-up, family violence, mental illness, poor physical health, substance use, physical, sexual or emotional abuse just to name a few.

Pink Shirt Day originated in 2007

David Shepherd and Travis Price along with their friends organized a protest to stand up to bullying and harassment after a grade 9 student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.  The next day David Shepherd and Travis Price rallied their school community.  They bought and distributed 50 pink shirts to students in the school to wear in support of their young classmate. The grade 9 classmate was moved by the kindness shown by the community and the bullies were never heard from again.
